With the leadership of former Sri Lanka president Mahinda Rajapaksa who crushed the LTTE Tamil terrorists, majority Sri Lankan voters flatly rejected the separatist federal constitution brought by pro-minority Ranil and Sirisena at the local government election securing 45 per cent of the majority votes and gained landslide victory for patriotic Sri Lankans.
According to the results, Pro-Rajapaksa’s the Sri Lanka People’s Party (SLPP) has garnered 703,117 votes along with 909 seats whereas the United National Party (UNP), coalition partner of present pro-minority Maithreepala Sirisena’s SLFP has secured only 469,986 votes with 459 seats. .
Both President Maithripala Sirisena’s Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s United National Party (UNP) who are widely unpopular as Pro-minority at the expenses of majority Sinhalese are badly trounced.
The partner of UNP, the North and East based Pro-LTTE Tamil terrorists’ political party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) had bagged 10 councils.
Mr Rajapaksa’s good show indicates that he may return to the big arena after being sidelined with his January 2015 loss to Sirisena in the presidential election. The two time presidents has been voted back with overwhelming support of the patriotic Sinhala Buddhist majority who views them as their hero for ending the 30 year separatist war of Tamil terrorists and are deadly against the separatist federal constitution promoted by pro-minority Ranil and Sirisena.
In a statement, he thanked the voters and assured no division of motherland would be allowed hereafter at any cost.
Sirisena was voted into office on the strength of support mainly from minority Tamil and Muslim communities with a deal of creating Tamil and Muslim based two Federal States in North and East two Provinces of Sri Lanka.
The local polls victory for Mr. Rajapaksa may even lead to the change of government with the UNP coming under pressure to resign and sit in opposition once again, analysts say.
Since Ranil and Sirisena came to power on 8th January 2015 with the help of so called international community the pro-minority government arrested numbers of war heroes and patriotic leaders and harassed them continuously to satisfy the pro-LTTE Tamil terrorist diaspora as a part of their infamous Singapore pact signed in 2013.
